How To Fillet A Walleye
Below is a
nice video presentation that shows how to fillet a walleye.
Walleye is
delicious freshwater fish that has a nice layered texture,
sought after by fish eaters and fishermen alike. An awesome
bonus to a Canada fly in fishing trip is the walleye dinners
and lake shore lunch's. Don't get me wrong pike is good but
walleye is fantastic.
Cutting a walleye fillet is about the same as cutting a bass
fillet, but I'd rather eat a walleye fillet any time.
You can also cut a walleye fillet and remove the rib bones
without cutting through them like the gentleman in this
video. I actually prefer removing the rib cage without
cutting through it. This helps restore your fillet knife
edge. If you don't mind sharpening your fillet knife then
cutting through the rib cage isn't a big deal, just know you
should take a sharpening stone along. Make sure you know how
to sharpen a fillet knife before you depart on your Canada
fly in fishing trip.

Using a battery powered electric fillet knife works
great for going through the rib bones if you have one
handy. There is a trade off though, a battery probably
weighs more than a stone or 2. There are also lighter
weight diamond stones that work excellent. I also like
to bring a jack knife so I bring my sharpening stones
anyway.
Notice how the guy in this video cuts out the walleye
cheeks. Walleye cheeks are considered a delicacy and for
good reason, they are kind of a sweet meat and just
delicious.
Don't waste your walleye cheeks, instead enjoy a
delicacy while on your fly in fishing vacation.
If you can cut any fish fillet it shouldn't be difficult
to cut walleye fillet. If you've never cut a fillet
before this video will certainly give you an idea of
what you need to do.
Even if you have cut walleye fillets before you might
still learn how to cut walleye cheeks. This is a great
video and I thank it's creators for making it and
sharing, thanks.
